Caitlin's High School Work

High School has arrived. Time has flown since the early days of our homeschooling adventure. We now have a wonderful high school aged daughter. I thought I would like to share some of what we have been doing for our High School studies.

First of all I would like to say that much prayer has gone into the planning of Caitlin's high school work and much prayer will continue as the time passes all too quickly. I was able to purchase and read Barb Shelton's book Senior High : A Home-Designed Form+u+la.. This book was wonderfully helpful in giving me a vision for what our last years of "school" should be. Caitlin and I spent some time looking at the basic course that would be needed or required for college admission. We were able to work out a course load and goals using this list.

Now into the nitty gritty~ what are our homeschool's requirements for graduation and what is it that Caitlin is actually "doing" this year?

Here is the framework for our High School which I adapted from a form in Barbara Shelton's book
Senior High : A Home-Designed Form+u+la.

TOTAL CREDITS required for graduation   25.5

We define "one credit" as being 120 hours of dedicated student work and study.

To be promoted from one grade to the next, Caitlin must complete a total of 690 hours of dedicated work and study.

Caitlin will take 4 years to complete High School.

To stay on track from year to year, she needs to have 690 hours per year, 18.5 hours per week, which is about 3.7 hours per day.
